SIFNOS ONE
The island of Sifnos in the
Western Cyclades Islands of Greece is the
place I always return to each visit to Greece. It has been ‘discovered’
relatively lately, but has rapidly blossomed into a burgeoning tourist
destination. However, it retains its original Greek village life,
authentic Cyclades charm and unspoilt landscape of terraced fields.
Sifnos has small vibrant towns, great trekking trails, authentic Greek
cuisine, child-friendly beaches, crystal waters, whitewashed churches
and flagstone alleyways in age-old villages. My pictures show the port
of Kamares, the unique ceramics of the island, Kamares beach,
whitewashed churches, and vistas over the fields. In the main town of
Apollonia I have photographed villagers at work, deliveries by donkey
and the castle-like dovecots. Also stunning pix of the
bougainvillea-draped towns of Apollonia and nearby Katavati and
Ardemonas. The whitewashed church of Panagia Poulati is particularly
beautiful and has amazing views of the rugged coastline to the hillside
town of Kastro.
