The Saronic Islands -

The Saronic Islands are the closest to Athens and the port of Piraeus, just a hydrofoil trip away. My pictures feature Poros, Hydra and Spetses, all different in their own way and all quite stunning. Poros Town  lies along the waterfront, only a few hundred metres away from the Peloponnese shore, a sunny place. Behind the perfect horseshoe harbour of Hydra, the stone town rises in tiers to form an amphitheatre. The waterfront is lined with eclectic tavernas spilling out across the flagstones, their rows of cane chairs facing the action, and narrow cobbled streets lead back into the town, like slits between the walls, mysterious and inviting. Spetses is different again - a quiet place with many neat squares filled with attractive tavernas. A little off the tourist track, its back streets are picturesque and full of flowers and colourful painted signs. Enjoy.
