On the Southern Coast of Crete are some of the most picturesque spots in Greece. Under the
thrall of the mighty Lefka Ori Mountains (White Mts), the villages of Paleohora, Sougia, Agia Roumeli,
Loutro and Chora Sfakion, mostly only accessible by boat or a mind-numbing bus trip, cling to the coastline.
Agia Roumeli is the jumping off point for the southern hike to the 'Gates' of the amazing Gorge of Samaria, a
truly awesome adventure. Loutro offers a lovely R&R spot after your exertions, and Chora Sfakion provides
the link back to Chania. Chora Sfakion is of significance to World War 2 historians, for the same little quay
saw the embarkation and rescue of Allied troops during the invasion of Crete.
